” Earthquakes In Various Places “

Over the weekend Michigan experienced an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude, a state which has not had one since 1947 nearly seven decades. We see places like Nepal who has recently had a severe earthquake with the loss of over seven thousand lives with thousands injured and misplaced. What is going on? Is this biblical? The answer is yes as scripture tells us there will be many signs and wonders before the return of Christ as Jesus taught His disciples when they asked how it would be before His return. But this is just the beginning of sorrows! (Matthew 24:3-8) And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows….. (Mark 13:8).

Earthquakes are just one of the myriad of event’s that God will use to rejuvenate the earth to create a place where only the unshaken strong in the Lord people will dwell. His kingdom will remain even if all be removed. (Hebrews 12:25-29). See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.

For anyone who feels God is not the weather as it crosses over the land would have a hard time to deny the scripture passages that tell us He is in control of it all. Lightning is His arm and thunder is His voice, tempest winds with flaming fire and hailstones are all His elements used for many reasons. (Nahum 1:3-7)…. (Isaiah 30:30)….. (Psalm 18:7-13).

Some think there is no judgment in the earth for the choices man makes, Paul and Silas experienced the good side of an earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison they were in as all the doors immediately opened and all were freed! (Acts 16:25-28). And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

When the seventh angel pours out the final vial of God’s wrath the greatest earthquake ever known to man will cause every island and mountain to be gone and the hail will be the size of a talent (100 pounds) out of heaven. (Revelation 16:17-21). And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
