Church that spent 30 years changing people ‘affected by homosexuality’ shuts down and apologises to gay community for ‘years of undue judgement’

My comment:  Let the Hate mail begin, but I will not soften my stance on this.  Leviticus 18:22  You shall not lie with a male as with a woman.  It is an abomination.  1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous or an idolater, or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. (Read verses 9-13 also.)  If you click the link for Daily mail below you can see a video and you’ll never guess whose network it is.  OPRAH’S  very own OWN.

A controversial Christian ministry that crusaded against homosexuality announced on Wednesday that it would closing down after a dramatic apology from its leader.

Florida-based Exodus International had been operating for 37 years, devoting itself to helping people ‘seeking freedom from unwanted same-sex attraction’.

Exodus promoted the belief that homosexuality could be reduced or even eliminated through prayer and counselling.

In 2007, Mr Chambers said that he himself had benefited from this ‘therapy’.

He told The Associated Press: ‘Exodus is here for people who want an alternative to homosexuality. There are thousands of people like me who have overcome this.’

In an extraordinary change of heart Alan Chambers, the ministry’s president, apologised ahead of the closure.

He admitted: ‘For quite some time we’ve been imprisoned in a worldview that’s neither honoring toward our fellow human beings, nor biblical.’

Mr Chambers, who served as president for more than 11 years, apologised to the entire gay community for ‘years of undue judgment by the organisation and the Christian Church as a whole’.

‘I am sorry that so many have interpreted this religious rejection by Christians as God’s rejection.

‘I am profoundly sorry that many have walked away from their faith and that some have chosen to end their lives.’

The board of directors voted to shut down Exodus to start a new ministry that would create ‘safe, welcoming and mutually transforming communities’.

The 38th annual Exodus Freedom conference, taking place at Concordia University in California until the end of the month, will be the ministry’s last.

‘A new generation of Christians is looking for change – and they want to be heard,’ Exodus board member Tony Moore said in a statement.

Brad Allen, a former Exodus employee who came out last year, made a TV appearance with Mr Chambers on ‘Our America with Lisa Ling’,

Mr Allen said: ‘I was incredibly proud of him for doing this — and he’s taking flak from all sides.’

  1. There’s the problem! it was just written above that the church leaders of today are saying it’s not a sin…….we will let them read their watered down version of a rewritten bible that is allowing them to do what they want, because their bible(NOT THE KJV)true bible lets them do exactly what God’s true words says: “And all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish;because they received not the Love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this cause God shall send then strong delusion that they should believe a lie.(2 Thessalonians 2:10,11)Blessings.

  2. That’s so true. I marvel too at the amount of people who no longer hold fast to the counsel of God. Even when they are corrected I wonder if they accept the reproving or deny the truth. Galatians 1:6-10. If we would just trust God and believe that what he said is what he meant. I mean we all fall short at times, but to just openly lead people astray I just don’t know what’s going through their minds. If your’e going to preach another gospel don’t call it following Christ because I don’t know by whose authority this organization is working under but it’s not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

      • Right. It’s not like there are gay babies that are born and grow up to be attracted to the same sex naturally. It’s just not natural. It’s what one opens themselves up to or through no fault of their own are subjected to. May God bless you too Julia.

      • Fasting and praying. I know that those who are struggling with that lifestyle are going through a lot and it’s a strong spiritual warfare, but God has preserved in His Word how to combat it all through obedience and a desire to honor Him and His Word.

  3. Wow, people are falling like dominoes, it is a chain reaction…My heart is heavy when I read news like this and devil plays with my thoughts so that I ask myself am I crazy and paranoid or what?! On the other hand when I am quiet, Holy Spirit confirms me that I am ok just where I am – standing in Christ Jesus. Dear friends be strong for it’s going to get worse. Love to all! ❤

  4. C.J., remember Jesus warned about deception in the last days prior to His return. The world is already lost and deceived so Jesus is talking about the present apostasy in the church and the ‘falling away’ of Christians that is taking place. Satan is picking off the leaders like flies as they fall into his web of lies and deception. When Christians doubt, then compromise the Word of God, there is nothing for their faith to stand on. God does not lower His standards because society is ‘changing’. We must meet His standards. God does not change; His Word abides forever! Jesus is coming soon- for those who worship Him in spirit AND in Truth. Maranatha! Praise God!

  5. Hmmmm. God may have to apologize to Sodom and the cities of the plain; what was wrong then, is still wrong today. ‘He changes not,’ only difference today is HOW He chooses not to respond.

In the meantime, thank God for grace.

    • Amen! I’ve received some really hate filled messages over posts like this, but God’s word does not change, no matter how much we want it to. I understand the rule, love the sinner hate the sin. I truly do. But whats wrong is that the church leaders of today are saying that it’s not sin.

      • I would like to encourage you to post some of the ‘hate’ mail. As long as it is not too vulgar, folks need to see what they have written, and what fair minded folks allow. The moderation thing is abused, kind of like a selective editing;

they may revist what they have said in anger, and this may be a good thing. That’s my two cents.

      • Yes, I have said things in haste, and wish I did not. Proof is take a peek at something you have written years ago, and how you possibly re worked it. Reasonable people understand the context of a comment, and where u are coming from anyway; it could generate a real good thread.

        Quick question.
Why does my avatar not show on some word press sites??

      • I have taken your advice and I have restored 2 milder hate comments. If you like you can visit the post about transgender teen, to view them, and I have lifted all restrictions from comment and forms of moderation. I agree with you, let the world see what these people think. Also I advise everyone to remember that there are paid trolls just to troll Christian sites and cause dissention. Just remember this when reading comments. God bless you. Also I don’t know why your avatar doesn’t appear. If you have a wordpress account and are logged in to wordpress when you comment. Your avatar should appear. I only enabled generic avatar as a default for those who don’t have a wordpress account. I guess that’s a question for wordpress.

      • Good call brother. Iron sharpeneth iron, we need each other, it helps our accountability. You put a smile on my face for heeding counsel.

‘There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.’ Abraham was a friend of God; isn’t it great to be called a friend of God, that is, in deed and in truth, and not in word only.
