Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
In the Old Testament, in short, an animal was offered in sacrifice as a sin offering. Atonement required blood offerings for Gods forgiveness.
Everyone knows the story of Abraham when God tested him by instructing him to offer Isaac as a sacrificial lamb to God. Abraham did as God asked and tied Isaac to wood but at the last minute God stopped Him and instead provided a ram for the sacrifice.
Just as God provided Abraham a ram, He provided His begotten Son to the world to provide eternal life, forgiveness of sin to the entire world, the only price? Belief in Christ. If not for us who will tell the world of Christ, His miraculous birth and that He offered Himself for atonement of all sin. Mine and yours, and everyone past, present and future.
To do all that is asked of us of the Lord to forgive in the flesh is most impossible, but in the Lord we can do all things through Christ. By the grace of God the impossible is easier by the example given us for while we were yet sinner’s Christ died for us (Ephesians 4:29-32).
We see the importance of forgiving one another after reading the Lord’s prayer when Jesus says unless we forgive then God will not forgive us!(Matthew 6:6-15).
