Is A Christian Evangelist’s Demand For A Private Jet Biblical?

Recently reports have indicated that a Televangelist has asked his viewers to fund a 54 Million dollar private jet for him. Yes 54 Million dollars. He has even done interviews that major media has played where he states that God told him to believe this jet into existence. Now we are  not without faith.  We know that God provides for all our needs. If you need a plane and it fulfills a mission from God you will have it. What we have a problem with is his justification. As a Preacher, he has come up short in who the person of Jesus Christ truly is. He said and I quote: “If Jesus was here now, you can be sure He wouldn’t be riding a donkey, but he would be flying around in a jet preaching the word. We know from scripture that Christ fulfilled a prophecy. “Look your King comes to you riding a donkey.” Scripture teaches us there are many gods and lords, yet it has not left out that our Lord was a humble person and took on the roll of a servant. Just as Jesus was tempted by satan, that all could be His if only He would follow Him! This so called high life He thinks the congregation needs to foot the bill for a new jet, sadly seems to be distant from the truth Jesus has taught us.

This man not only doesn’t know who Jesus was in His time, He doesn’t know what Jesus is today. In His time Jesus was the Son of God, He performed miracle after miracle and even walked on water. He humbled himself while on earth. And even He said “the son of man doesn’t even have a pillow to lay His head.” He told the rich man who asked what must he do to follow him, to give away all his possessions to the poor and then follow Him. I could go on and on, but the word of God and life of Jesus speaks for itself.

Do you know what 54 Million dollars would do for the Persecuted Christians in places like Sri-Lanka, Thailand, Pakistan, Nigeria, Iran and the East? And don’t say they don’t exist, I know many of them by name and speak to them regularly. They are suffering in darkness begging for food, and this man begs for millions for a private jet. What’s wrong with this picture?  This selfish, worldly doctrine is not Biblical.  And I’ve heard it over and over from the Persecuted, that there are many Pastors and churches whose only desire is for prosperity for them and the persecuted and poor do without.  In fact Jesus gives clear direction in Revelation what will happen to those who follow the world.  And I’m afraid many will hear the words “away from me I never knew you.”  Scripture also tells us the love of money is evil.  1 Timothy 6:10  10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

It’s also reported this week that another popular prosperity gospel preacher’s church has an annual budget of 90 million dollars. Let that sink in. It’s obvious the only prosperity attained from this doctrine is for the false preachers and prophets. Another popular prosperity teacher claims God wouldn’t want her to her to be poor. She said this in defense of her plane and luxurious homes.

Jesus made it perfectly clear He was here solely to tell of His Father’s will for all mankind, a plan for the body of Christ to function as one. Our Lord was not set on things for Himself, as others were always put first! (Romans 15:1-6)and (John 8:25-32)

We have only one last thing to say to these preachers: Mark 8:36
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
