My father was what is called a fire and brimstone preacher, always warning, always sharing the good news. It was his warnings of tribulation and Christs return that was seared into my mind. There are 2 things that I remember most about his preaching. Convulsions of nature, and that Jesus is the only way to heaven. These still burn in my mind. I have to admit that I didnt quite understand comepletely his warning of convulsions of nature until recently. I knew it was warnings about weather and the upside down, bizarre combinations we are witnissing today. But look at the definition of nature, especially the one about what it means in theology.
The material world, especially as surrounding humankind and existing independently of human activities.
The natural world as it exists without human beings or civilization.
The elements of the natural world, as mountains, trees, animals, or rivers.
In Theology: the moral state as unaffected by grace.
This definition as it relates to theology is what stopped me and caught my attention. In addition to the fact that seasons are melding together and we are witnessing a violent, turbulent ,chaotic, weather pattern, with either 100 year records breaking or “never before seen” phenomenom, we are witnessing a phenominal convolution of moral decay and societal breakdown.
Morality is a thing of the past. Sex is celebrated as Universities adopt sex weeks as normal. The blurring of gender lines, celebrating and encouraging people to change their gender as young as 5 y/o, I could go on and on. And thats not even goung into the celebrations of killing the unborn.
Yesterday in San Jose they had hail, thunder and an earthquake all at the same time and it was joked about! According to local, Mercury news, one tweet said “Rain, hail, wind, thunder, lightning, AND an earthquake? Mother Nature ain’t having it today, ya’all better pray.”
At least they recognized an anomaly. But really?? Mocking God is an egregrious error. There is no mother nature, no father winter. God controls the weather even though man thinks he can. God controls and uses the weather also for judgement. Read Job 38.
So, while angry at the mocking of God I agree with one thing, “ya’all better pray.” Pick your head out of the sand, or as one sister in Christ said pop your bubble around you and know whats happening.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
