Jesus said the Meek will inherit the earth. Just as Zephaniah also said. But He didnt say lay down and wait for my return. They knew what He meant. Excercise control over your strength, allow the Father to guide you, He didnts say ignore sin, ignore wickedness.
“Strongs Concordance #4239 says this about the word meek:
This difficult-to-translate root (pra-) means more than “meek.” Biblical meekness is not weakness but rather refers to exercising God’s strength under His control – i.e. demonstrating power without undue harshness.
[The English term “meek” often lacks this blend – i.e. of gentleness (reserve) and strength.]”
Others like the Blue letter Bible simply say meek means to be humble and mild.
Peter and Paul especially have both taught about power, dying to self, self control, speaking boldly without rage. Galatians 5
Says it best:
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control.Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
If you want to see provocation, rage, and bitterness talk or write about evidence of a post tribulation return of Christ or rapture. The attacks you will receive from those who claim to follow Christ are filled with vitriol and curses.
Even though there will be those who are brazen in following that which is not of God we are not to sit idly by as evil runs rampant, but are to be as lights that shine in a dark place.Just as Ezekiel’s’ commission was by the spirit of God to warn a most rebellious people whether they would listen or not he was to speak the Lords words, and we too by the same spirit are to do the same!(Ezekiel 2:1-7),(2 Timothy 1:6-14).
May we humble ourselves before the Lord who in due time will exalt us, and in meekness instruct others so that they may recover themselves from the snare of the devil(2 Timothy 2:24-26).
“And He said unto them,Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover(Mark 16:15-18).
Jesus was filled with love, humble and meek, yet filled with power, power that we can only imagine. He spoke boldly and in control, in fact one of the only times he spoke in his defense before He was crucified, He said my Kingdom is not of this earth, if it were my followers would fight that I would not be delivered to the Jews. His followers are equiped with power, a spiritual power that still to this day is not understood. If the Disciples would have been meek in the sense that many think it means. We wouldnt have Christianity today. They would have remained silent or converted to whatever god those in power chose. Rome had many gods, as there is still today. And world powers are demanding that Christians accept all as one god and worship it. And whole denominations have renounced Christ as the only way to the Father. Accepting other doctrines, other beliefs and even other gods.
Whats the point? The point is this, Peter and Paul and all the rest spoke boldly without fear, without a timid spirit and took a stand. They did not incite riots yet they spread the Gospel. They boldly spoke against Rome’s pagan practices, against all pagan practices, they warned against the beliefs of the Pharisees being as yeast that would spoil. All but John were killed for this. John was boiled in oil and exiled. They didnt shy away from the truth.
In the face of wickedness, shameful attacks they stood their ground. They spoke out. We used to have a voice, but now our voice is being slowly silenced. No longer do we speak out against sin, its accepted. Those who shout us down with hatred are exalted while our voice grows weak. Remember this out of love for Christ we are to stand firm not forsaking His Gospel.
Remember this, a meek heart forgives, doesnt seek revenge or harbor vengeance. A meek heart doesnt seek to bear false witness or viciously attack others to destroy them. A meek heart understands that Gods vengeance is His alone. Forgive as God forgoves us, speak out against evil and wickedness but do no harm. (Romans 12:19) (Romans 13:10)
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
