What is Cheap Grace?  Deitrich Bonhoeffer lived in a period of great turmoil, death and destruction.  He travelled to the US planning to stay, but when he saw what was transpiring in his beloved Germany he returned and was hanged naked for his faith in Christ.  He was led to the gallows naked and unashamed.  He knelt before the hangman and said his last prayer on this earth.  A German doctor attending this later said he never saw a braver more resolute man stronger in faith in God.  He died a true disciple of Christ!  He knew that Gods grace was not cheap.  He didnt bow to Hitler, he stayed steadfast in his Faith in God.  If you haven’t read “The Cost of Discipleship” read it now.  Time is so short.

We are living in a time of WORLD chaos, persecution of Christians has reached genocidal proportions.  Even those not killing and thinking they do a service to God are persecuting Christians.  The West escalates its hatred of Christ’s true disciples.  In short Christ’s predictions have come true!  The WORLD hates us for His name!

Still with head buried in the perverbial sand?  Wake up sleeper, the night has come and the workers are few.

Whole denominations and churches have fallen down the slippery slope, joining the politically correct itchy ear doctrine.  Numbers and greed have infected most churches.

America is pushing God out of all aspects and praising foreign gods.  Even in my sleepy, faith based town smack in the middle of the Bible Belt, Christians are calling for prayer to be removed from City Hall, because their hearts are filled with hatred.  You can not say you believe, go to church, then do something like that.  God will not be mocked.  He sent His Son to DIE!  To give us grace to be saved.  How dare they spit in Gods face!

I cant warn you enough, Jesus warned and yet still they chase after the world!  The cost of following Christ is dying to self.  What part of that do they not understand?  I say they because I know our readers know this, but I’m begging those who do not, WAKE UP!

“cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline. Communion withoutconfession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ.”

“Cheap grace, Bonhoeffer says, is to hear the gospel preached as follows: “Of course you have sinned, but now everything is forgiven, so you can stay as you are and enjoy the consolations of forgiveness.” The main defect of such a proclamation is that it contains no demand for discipleship. In contrast to cheap grace,

“costly grace confronts us as a gracious call to follow Jesus, it comes as a word of forgiveness to the broken spirit and the contrite heart. It is costly because it compels a man to submit to the yoke of Christ and follow him; it is grace because Jesus says: ‘My yoke is easy and my burden is light.'”

“Bonhoeffer argues that as Christianity spread, the Church became more “secularised”, accommodating the demands of obedience to Jesus to the requirements of society. In this way, “the world was Christianised, and grace became its common property.” But the hazard of this was that the gospel was cheapened, and obedience to the living Christ was gradually lost beneath formula and ritual, so that in the end, grace could literally be sold for monetary gain.”
