Today Oct 28, thousands of people are gathering in Pasargardae Iran to commemorate the Birthday of King Cyrus the Great. King Cyrus ruled Iran in 591 BC.
They gather to protest the freedoms given by Cyrus that have been taken away by the current regime, the oppression by the Mullah’s of the current evil regime. They chant “Freedom of thought impossible with the mullahs.” And this is true.
Executing and imprisoning everyone who refuses to believe the way they do.
I am not an expert on the History of the Persians or the Medes. But I do know the history that is in our Bible. God prophecied about King Cyrus through His prophets years before Cyrus came to be. He used Cyrus to conquer Babylon and set His people free.
Cyrus’ tomb is in Pasargardae, and it is one of Iran’s UNESCO world heritage sites. As much as Iran and the rest of the Islamic world wishes to remove Jewish history from the annals of time, and the map, the Jewish history is rich, and embedded in the History of the Medes and Persians. And so is freedom of thought, and democracy. In fact Cyrus built the kingdom on democratic values, it’s been said that this was the first use of democracy in History.
“The cylinder of Cyrus was discovered in the ruins of Babylon as Babylon was incorporated into Cyrus’ empire. The text on the cylinder praises Cyrus, sets out his genealogy and portrays him as a king from a line of kings. The cylinder’s text has been seen by biblical scholars as corroborative evidence of Cyrus’ policy of the repatriation of the Jewish people following their Babylonian captivity.” “The cylinder has also been called the oldest known charter or symbol of universal Human Rights.” (Wiki-Pedia)
“Cyrus the Great (c. 600 or 576 – 530 BC) figures in the Hebrew Bible as the patron and deliverer of the Jews. He is mentioned 23 times by name and alluded to several times more. From these statements it appears that Cyrus the Great, king of Persia, was the monarch under whom the Babylonian captivity ended, for according to the Bible, in the first year of his reign he was prompted by God to make a decree that the Temple in Jerusalem should be rebuilt and that such Jews as cared to might return to their land for this purpose. Moreover, he showed his interest in the project by sending back with them the sacred vessels which had been taken from the First Temple and a considerable sum of money with which to buy building materials. The existence of the decree has been challenged.” Wikipedia
I realized just how many did not understand this while reading comments this morning to the news of the Birthday of Cyrus the Great. Even thinking that he was a child of Esther’s. Esther’s place in the Persian Kingdom came years after Cyrus the Great. It has been suggested by some that Darius was possibly a son of Esther. Esther played a huge part in urging King Xerxes to save the Jewish people. Everyone should know the story of how she married the king and risked her life to come before the King, her husband and tell him of the plot to kill her and her people. It resulted in the death of Haman, a servant of the King, and the freedom of the Jewish people.
So how can we come from a kingdom that recognizes the difference in people and their beliefs, and who showed compassion and empathy to those who believed different, to a kingdom now that executes, imprisons, tortures and implicitly denies free thought and speech, much less belief?
Since the 1979 revolution when Iran was hijacked by corrupt religious leaders that instituted strict sharia law under their dark interpretation, the people have been oppressed. Through the years the people of Iran have protested, and met with death or prison. The thousands of executions that have taken place since that time of political prisoners that hold a dream, of peace and freedom are a stark grizzly reminder of what Iran has become today.
Saeed Abidini honors Cyrus the Great in a facebook post. He points out that Cyrus commands respect in the Quran and points out his name and fame and life style could still be the reason for the unity of humanity and society. He say’s “Cyrus was the first person in history to give the nation’s religous freedom that we still see in the western world today He was the first king to support Israel as the Nation of God and helped them financially and militarily go back home to Jerusalem. So he has great respect among all different religions, Human Rights Activists and especially supporters of Israel, like me.” He and many others long for the peace and unity that Cyrus once brought to the regiion and the world.
I am not suggesting that Judaism, and Christianity have ties to Islamic beliefs, but I am pointing out that the current regime of Iran goes way out of it’s way to dishonor the very King that founded it. Going out of their way to strip the country of freedoms like free thinking, freedom to choose their faith. The human rights of women are abused daily. Women are tortured and imprisoned for speaking out against the crimes imposed on them through compulsory dress, not being allowed to ride a bicycle, etc. There are morality police in the streets that beat and aresst those who dare to defy. Why did they turn from peace to terror?? The answer lies in the hardline, evil corrupt regime that is at the helm of the Persian Kingdom today. Iran is rich in history, rich in culture, it’s people are peace loving not as some propaganda reports suggest.
According to recent reports 120 people on death row in Iran will be executed by March of 2017. Iran executes drug offenders of which obama sets free in this country. Iran executes those who have committed crimes as children, Iran executes political and religious prisoners. Iran has executed 230 from Jan. to Aug of 2016. They executed 1,000 last year alone. This year they executed two Turkey Nationals just days after Erdogan visited the country. Remember Amir Hekmati received a death sentence for spying. Which he was not guilty of. These executions in Iran must stop. They must end. There is a woman on death row close to execution also. She was aressted for alledgedly killing her abusive husband. She was tortured for a force confession, and later it was brought to light another killed her husband, but she is awaiting death without proper trial or appeal. Chrisitans are imprisoned, tortured and attacked daily. One Christian woman in Evin Prison for her faith, asks the question “Is Christianity a crime in Iran?” The list goes on and on. 3 more Iranian/Americans who hold dual citizenship were aressted just recently, and imprisoned on trumped up charges as they visited family. Senator Mark Rubio made a statement that this is in response to the money paid for release of prisoners in Jan. of this year. This has to stop. Yet the world led by the US has ignored all this and given carte blanche to Iran to terrorize it’s own citizens.
I am not an expert on the history of Iran, I am one who appreciates the truth in History and Great men of the past. And it pains me to see the twisting of History and what great men stood for. I am standing with the Iranians, dreaming of a time when peace and freedoms for all existed, to return today. Stand with the people of Iran and demand the Human Rights abuses stop.
