“Born of Flesh / Born of The Spirit of God”

We see the loving kindness of God when Abraham had two sons, one born of Sarah’s maid Hagar who was Ishmael and the other born to Sarah and Abraham named Isaac. The difference here holds great meaning to those of us who are known as being of the seed of Abraham. For the one born to Hagar the bondwoman was born after the flesh which genders bondage, while Isaac who was born by promise to Sarah that God made His covenant with and is the same covenant we are born of the Spirit of promise and freedom through Christ! (Galatians 4:22-31)For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free……. (Genesis 17:17-21).

We are called unto the liberty that is found in Christ, and the flesh does not have the power over us that it once did. When we are born of God His spirit helps us from committing sin. (1 John 3:4-10).Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

It is by obedience and true repentance the holy spirit of God is given (Acts 5:30-32), and we are all born of the flesh till we come to the knowledge and truth found only in Christ. Still none of us are without hope for while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
