We are presently in the midst of two different worlds with a battle of the flesh versus the Spirit! We clearly see in the book of Romans the fight of afflictions one has over them by wanting to do good yet sin is present. Through it all Christ is our victory in all trials we face, but we are delivered from the law of bondage into the liberty found only in Him. (Romans 7:18-25) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin…… (Romans 8:5-11)…… (Galatians 2:20-21).
Jesus has told us of the price we pay in following His truth, which is why the world does not want to live by and we are reproached for doing so. We gladly suffer for His sake as the world holds no redeeming power nor can we have eternal life by following the world’s ways. (John 17:14-20) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; …… (John 15:16-20).
As followers of Christ we are inheritors of an unending kingdom where our Lord will one day reign forever! We realize this world is temporary and by believing the truth of His word we are His purchased possession and sealed with the Spirit of the Living God! (Ephesians 1:9-14).
Our Lord came to a world of darkness where He is a light of truth, and for those who choose His truth that sets them free will we also shine as lights in the midst of a perverse and crooked nation. (Philippians 2:10-15) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; …… (John 12:35-36)….. (Isaiah 9:2).
