In the book of Genesis God finished HIS work in six days, and rested on the seventh. (Genesis 1:31-2:3). And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
In the time of Christ the Sabbath was at the end of the week. The seventh day.
The crucifixion of our Messiah Jesus Christ was on the sixth day.
We read in Mark 15:42-47 about the burial of Christ and that it was the day before the Sabbath.
And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
Just as God finished HIS work in six days, Christ finished HIS work here on earth on the sixth day. (John 19:30). When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished : and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
In Hebrew Sabbath means rest. Jesus is our Sabbath, let us rest in HIM. (Luke 6:5). And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Jesus also sacrificed Himself for our sins that we might have eternal life! (1 Corinthians 5:7). Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
God gift to us was Jesus our Messiah. (John 3:16). For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jesus our Lord [Sabbath=Rest] and Saviour [Passover=Sacrifice].
Hebrews 4:8-10…….For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
