We have often said when explaining how to read the scriptures that we have to be ‘Led by the Holy Spirit.’ What does that mean? Why are so many not understanding that? Why do so many read the scriptures as if reading the encyclopedia? Why do so many read only what they want to, why do so many read the Bible and offer their own interpretation? Why do so many follow a man’s interpretation instead of God’s? We have heard this over and over when discussing the Bible “Well who do you follow?” I only follow one, and that is God and the ‘Holy Spirit’, the ‘Counselor’ sent by our Father to lead us into all truth. (John 16:13) Which is what all believers should do. Why more don’t embrace the spirit of discernment, I don’t know. It’s not difficult.
To be led of the Spirit of God is to be saved by his grace. What then motivates the believer is to do the will of God and no longer their own. “Who hath directed the spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who directed him, and taught him in the path of judgement, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?”. (Isaiah 40:13,14). It is by the Holy Spirit of God that his people gain his knowledge and this is a knowledge that is written on their hearts and minds. It was of long ago God gathered his people as we read in the old testament of his Spirit given and then the people would walk in his covenant. “Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thing hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images”. (Isaiah 42:5-8).
So what does it mean? It means to first seek God, it means to seek knowledge, wisdom and guidance. It means to search the scriptures for yourself. As we are brought into the Body of Christ, we are given this gift, this gift of a counselor, a guide. When we truly seek Him, we will find Him. We shouldn’t take the word of a man, we don’t need an interpreter, Jesus gave us the interpreter, and the interpretation. I know that many have heard over and over to read your Bible, study and memorize verses. There’s a reason for that. When we study God’s word, when we read daily the word of God, it begins to permeate our very being. We start to live the Bible instead of reading the Bible. That’s the way it works. There are many study guides and on-line Bible tools, here is a very good page to get you started. It’s called ‘Study the Bible’ from Voice of the Persecuted. (Click here) We tend to get lazy and get our Bible and words from God from other sources even from movies. Which I might add are not Biblically sound teachings. This is a very serious time we live in, and to leave something as important as our eternal dwelling to something other than God’s word, is just foolish. Especially today when the Bible is being transformed, twisted and changed. If you don’t follow the Spirit with the gift of discernment you will begin to doubt, and confusion will set in. We are entering into a time of darkness, and if you don’t know God’s voice, now is the time. Through prayer and supplication will your mind and understanding begin to open. Much like a rose in the spring. I read once, the Bible is not like Cake to be taken out on special occasions. And that is so true. Do you know how many people in the other parts of the world cry daily for a Bible, do you know how many risk death just to own a Bible? These have discovered through the Holy Spirit that the Bible is truly God’s word and gift to mankind.
